Bali Nine Controversy
After reading Pak Joel's comment and questions, I was curious as to what rights prisoners should or should not have. Another controversy that came to mind was "The Bali Nine" controversy, where nine people smuggled drugs from Australia into Bali. Apparently, Drug Police in Australia Airport tipped off the drug police in Bali. If the Bali Nine had been stopped in Australia, they would not recieve the death penalty, or Life sentence as the charges in Australia are more lenient.

Why are the drug laws in Bali so stringent?
ReplyDeleteIt could be because Drugs are so easy to access in Bali. Or maybe because there's not really an education here that tells people the effect of these drugs, and the only way to stop them being used is to enforce strong laws.
ReplyDeleteDo the strict laws apply only to Bali, or to the rest of Indonesia as well? If so, what factors influence the making of these strict laws? Do you agree with these laws?
ReplyDeleteNo, I don't agree with these laws. DEATH PENALTY IS WRONG. No human has the right to take the life of another. These laws are all over indonesia. The stupidest thing is, people get the death sentence for doing drugs, but serial killers can get out of a life sentence with parole. Often, druggies arent doing harm to anyone but themselves. But serial killers do harm to everyone BUT themselves!
